Dripping Springs area fires deemed ‘suspicious’

Hays County Fire Marshal Mark Chambers said today that the cause of some 11 fires reported in the Dripping Springs area since Friday remains “undetermined but suspicious.”

“These fires have all been next to roadways, with no apparent ignition source,” Chambers said. “We’ve had four separate reports of a white passenger car, possibly a 4-door sedan, seen in the area of some of the fires, which are in an approximate five-mile radius of each other.”

One of the fires resulted in 20 homes threatened and five homes evacuated. Regional resources were used in firefighting efforts. The Hays County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments and other officials continue to investigate the blazes.
