Second wildfire in as many days

STAFF REPORT

A grass fire in Dripping Springs has been contained after consuming 20 to 30 acres this afternoon, Hays County officials are reporting.

The fire, off Butler Ranch Road, is the second wildfire in as many days in northwestern Hays County. Residents of Terry’s Mobile Home Park and homes on Sports Park Drive were temporarily evacuated.

No one was injured in the blaze.

On Thursday evening, a brush fire threatened homes and consumed between 10 and 20 acres, officials said.

On Friday last week, firefighters battled two fires in the Dripping Springs area, one of which destroyed a $1 million home on Meadow Ridge Drive. The cause of that blaze is under investigation, Hays County Fire Marshal Mark Chamber said.

In the second fire, a vehicle’s catalyic converter ignited dry foliage and started a grassfire that consumed about 20 acres on Mt. Gainor Road southwest of Dripping Springs, Chambers said.
