‘Cajun Queen of Comedy’ to perform in San Marcos

Caroline A. Picard, “the Cajun Queen of Comedy,” will perform 8 p.m. August 17 at Taxi’s, 202 North LBJ Drive. The comedy show will also feature Kelly Stone, Jeremiah Wilkerson, and Sheila Rynolds.

picard mugPicard is a regular on Sirius Satellite Radio and has been a national and international touring comic for 12 years. Picard’s honesty and rawness on stage has led some to call her “The Janis Joplin” of stand-up comedy.

Picard, who is from Louisiana, calls her style of comedy “WSIWYG — What you see is what you get.”

“Hell, I’m 54, I’m all grown up, I say what I want,” Picard said. “Why? Because, I can. I’ve paid my dues in more ways than one. I’ve worked for the phone company, most major oil and gas corporations as an executive financial secretary, and I’ve run my own restaurant. I’ve been laid off, downsized, and with the restaurant, lost everything I owned. I can still do the same things now that I did when I was 20. Evidently I didn’t get that ‘Now that you’re over 50, you die’ memo. If I did, I damn well didn’t pay attention to it.”

Picard’s work has been featured on XM Radio, AOL Radio, and National Lampoon Radio. She acted on and was associate producer of Fist Full of Pills, a film that received an Honorary Award in 2005 at the The Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. Picard also acted in the film Kill Whitey. Picard received Hysterical Management’s Comedian of the Year award in 2002.

Picard can be seen in action on Youtube, and tickets to the Aug. 17 show can be purchased here.
