Hays County will pay tribute to veterans this Memorial Day by hosting several ceremonies this weekend throughout the county, Hays County Veteran Services officer Jude Prather announced this week.
San Marcos will host three ceremonies over the weekend. The first event, VFW Post 3413 Memorial Day Flag Ceremony, will begin at 9 a.m. on May 27 at Stonebrook Retirement Community located at 300 S. Stagecoach Trail, San Marcos.
American Legion Post 144 will honor veterans on Saturday, May 28, with a Memorial Day program set to begin at 10 a.m. at the San Marcos Cemetery, 1001 RR 12, San Marcos.
“Tribute to Soldiers” Memorial Day Program will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the Veterans Memorial in San Marcos at the corner of Hopkins Street and Riverside Drive. San Marcos native Ray Hernandez will be the master of ceremonies which include a traditional reading of the names of deceased war veterans, an appearance and speech from Mayor Daniel Guererro and music provided by St. John’s Catholic Church Evening Choir.
The Kyle-Buda area will honor and recognize veterans at the VFW Memorial Day Service. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on May 30 at the VFW Post in Kyle. Events include a flag ceremony, a rifle salute and a reading of the names of local deceased veterans. The VFW Post is located at 103 S. Front Street in Kyle
Dripping Springs remembers veterans with “An Evening with our Stars,” starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 29 at John and Amy Doucet’s home, 2300 Gatlin Creek Road. The free event will include a USO-style show, dinner, dancing and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to RSVP at 512-923-0436. Non-veteran volunteers are welcome.
Wimberley area residents can pay tribute to veterans at the Wimberley Memorial Day program that begins at 10 a.m. May 30. The event will take place at Veterans Memorial Plaza at EmilyAnn Theatre located at 1101 RR 2325, Wimberley.

The Hays County Veteran Services Office is available to help veterans and their dependents receive the various services they are entitled to. These services include help with completing forms for assistance, replacing missing paperwork and medals, and transportation to the VA Hospital in San Antonio.
