San Marcos native Ray Hernandez, whose son is currently in the military, will be the master of ceremonies for the Memorial Day program.
The San Marcos High School and Texas State University graduate, who is executive director of the Kyle Chamber of Commerce, served in the U.S. Army, as did his late father and two brothers. Special music will again be provided by the St. John’s Catholic Church Evening Choir.
Those attending the Memorial Day tribute will find the stately Hays County Veterans Memorial setting improved over the past few months. The Veterans Memorial was officially transferred from the caring hands of its founders to the City of San Marcos last year at this time.
In addition to the listing of men and women killed in action, the memorial contains marble plaques that individuals have purchased in honor of their special service men and women.
Memorial plaques may be purchased at the City of San Marcos Grant Harris, Jr., building at 401 E. Hopkins, according to Lisa Morris, Recreation Manager and staff liaison for the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee.
A brochure is available at the Parks and Recreation Department in the Grant Harris Building and online here. More information may be obtained by calling Parks and Recreation at 393-8400.
