Inmate attempts suicide in Hays jail

A 25-year-old inmate sustained a severe self-inflicted injury while incarcerated in Hays County jail on Saturday, authorities say.

Eric Loyd Dykes, of Wimberley, was transported to Seton Medical Center Hays in Kyle around 4 p.m., where he remains hospitalized in serious condition, Hays County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deputy Laurie Bain said.

Dykes was awaiting trial on numerous charges, including aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; robbery, a second-degree felony; and harassment, a Class B misdemeanor. He also was in jail for a first-degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon out of Travis County.

His bonds total an amount of $155,000, according to jail records. Hays County officials declined to comment further.
