San Marcos resident invited to free shred day

STAFF REPORT

The city clerk’s office will sponsor a free Shred Day for San Marcos and Hays County residents from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 26 at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.

City Clerk Jamie Lee Pettijohn and her staff will be on hand to assist residents who want to dispose of boxes of paper documents by confidential on-site shredding by Marshall Shredding of San Antonio.

“With the increased concerns about identity theft, many people are aware that they should dispose of personal records in a way that insures that others cannot gain possession or misuse the information,” Pettijohn said. “This event helps with home records management and publicizes the importance of managing records.”

Residents may wish to shred such documents as old tax returns, processed checks, loan applications, financial reports and other papers that include Social Security or banking and credit card account numbers.

All the documents will be shredded on site. Volunteers will be available to help unload material from vehicles and boxes will be returned to residents. For information, call the city clerk’s office at 512-393-8090.
