City posts financial transparency portal

SUBMITTED REPORT

The city of San Marcos Finance Department has begun posting the weekly Accounts Payable Check Register online here along with other financial documents.

“The financial transparency page strives to keep citizens better informed about how their tax dollars are being spent,” said Mayor Daniel Guerrero “Each week the Finance Department will post the Accounts Payable Check Registers on the website for citizens to review.”

The city’s financial transparency page also has annual budgets for 2011, 2010 and 2009 and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 2009. The 2010 CAFR will be posted after its approval.

“While annual budgets and audits have been online for many years, we hope this page will make the information easier for citizens to find and review,” finace director Steve Parker said.

The check register includes:

  • Payments to vendors for goods and services
  • Payments to agencies according to contractual terms and conditions
  • Travel/Training reimbursements to City Council and employees
  • Refunds for deposits on utilities, facilities rentals, etc.

The report lists the check number, vendor name, description of the payment, and the amount of the transaction. The register does not include payroll checks and excludes checks that might provide protected privacy information, such as child support and deferred compensation.

For information, contact the Finance Department at 512-393-8170 or email Parker at sparker@sanmarcostx.gov.
