UPDATED 9:29 p.m. MARCH 7: Anthony Saucedo, 25, was arrested in the Cracker Barrel parking lot in San Marcos and is in Hays County jail facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge, sheriff’s office spokesperson Laurie Bain said. SWAT responded to Suffield Drive house because they thought Saucedo was inside with the children, who were found safely at a relative’s home in San Marcos, Bain said.

Hays County/San Marcos SWAT  swarmed a house in the Hillside Terrace neighborhood near Buda this afternoon following an altercation in which a woman was shot. But no one was apparently home and the scene was cleared shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Saucedo

The shooter, identified by neighbors as Anthony Saucedo, allegedly shot his wife in the hand during an altercation at about 4 p.m., the wife’s sister, Laura Garcia, said at the scene. Before law enforcement arrived, Saucedo left the home to take the couple’s two children to stay with relatives in San Marcos, Laura Garcia said.

Law enforcement, including officers from as far away as San Marcos, surrounded the home on Suffield Drive and cordoned off streets in Hillside Terrace, a hardscrabble neighborhood south of Buda. After Garcia told investigators that her brother-in-law was not in the house, officers began standing down and, later, searched the house. No one was there.

The woman was being treated at University Medical Center at Brackenridge for non-life threatening injuries, Laura Garcia said. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson could not immediately be reached. Officers at the scene declined to comment.

CORRECTION: The hospital where the victim was taken was corrected.
