The city of San Marcos Capital Improvements Department recently completed a drainage improvement project on Ebony Street and Parker Drive to address storm water runoff from Texas 123 and improve drainage for area residents.
Project contractor KIVA, Inc. of Buda constructed a 400-foot concrete drainage channel adjacent to Ebony Street along with a 24-inch concrete pipe storm sewer system down Ebony to Parker Drive. The concrete channel will intercept storm water runoff from commercial properties located along Texas 123 and send it into the new storm sewer system.
“These improvements are designed to provide relief to residents in the Parker Drive area whose yards continually flood during heavy rain,” said Jennifer Shell, the city’s Capital Improvements interim director. “We have several additional drainage projects planned around town to improve neighborhoods and help protect the San Marcos River.”
The $91,635 drainage project began in September 2010 and was completed in February 2011. San Antonio Design Group Inc. served as design engineer with project management provided by the City’s Capital Improvements staff.
