Recycling bills go out early in error

The city of San Marcos has corrected a billing error that sent some 6,700 bills for multi-family recycling services a few weeks early.

The city started single stream recycling for multi-family units on Feb. 1. Each apartment will be billed $5.53 a month beginning in late February.

“Our staff implemented the fee ahead of time in error,” said Steve Parker, Director of Finance. “We apologize for the mistake and have already credited those customers.”

Customers may call 393.8383 if they have questions about their bills. The city issues utility bills in cycles over a four week period.

Single stream recycling enables residents to put all recyclable materials in a 96 gallon cart without separating materials. Recyclables include paper, cardboard and boxboard, plastics, metal food cans, aluminum cans, and glass bottles. Information on recycling is available online at www.sanmarcostx.gov.
