SMA lecture series to feature Amy Meeks

STAFF REPORT

At 2 p.m. on Feb. 8, San Marcos Academy (SMA) and Texas State will present the second speaker in their Distinguished Lecture series in the academy’s library. The guest speaker will be Amy Meeks, a senior lecturer in the Psychology Department at Texas State.  The lecture is open to the public.

Meeks will speak on the adolescent period of development.

Meeks has a PhD in child and family therapy from Virginia Tech. Her undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology is from Austin College in Sherman.

This is the second school year SMA has partnered with Texas State for the lecture series. The four speakers this year will be from the university’s psychology department, including Randall Osborne on Feb. 15 and David Carpenter on March 31. Selected SMA students, including juniors and seniors in the honors program, attend the lectures as a preview of university level classes.

The first speaker was Robyn R. Rogers in November 2010.
