It wasn’t easy, but the San Marcos Academy (SMA) boys basketball team improved to 18-2 Tuesday night with a 42-37 home court win against Keystone.
John Nealon scored 12 points to lead the Bears, who improved to 18-2 overall and 7-0 in their district. The Bears are ranked second in Texas among private schools.
SMA led by only 20-15 at halftime against Keystone, which fell to 4-9 overall.
“Our team can play better than we did tonight,” SMA coach Kelia Price said. “I expect a higher level of play than they showed me tonight, and, as a team, they expect a higher level of play for themselves.”
Keystone began the game with an 8-1 lead, but SMA rallied for a 10-9 lead at the quarter. The Bears would extend their lead to as large as 42-32.
The SMA girls team improved to 2-5 in the district with a 36-34 win at home Tuesday against Keystone.
