LBJ museum to be open on King's birthday

STAFF REPORT

The Lyndon Baines Johnson Museum of San Marcos, normally open on weekends, will open on Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King’s birthday.

The LBJ Museum will join several local groups, including the Dunbar Heritage Association, in celebrating the life and work of the slain civil rights leader.

The museum will open at 9 a.m. with coffee and hot cider available. Across Guadalupe Street on the steps of the Hays County Courthouse, many observing King’s birthday will gather at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the Dunbar Center.

The LBJ museum will display a special King exhibit, along with an exhibit showing the architect’s rendering of the museum’s planned expansion. The museum board also has invited the LBJ/MLK Crossroads committee to display information on the status of its plan to mark the intersection of Lyndon Baines Johnson Drive and Martin Luther King Drive.

The LBJ museum normally is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
