STAFF REPORT

The Hays County Historical Commission (HCHC) recently began work on the old Hays County Jail on Fredericksburg Street in San Marcos. The old roof has been removed in preparation for adding concrete corners to the building.

Work on the initial phase of the project is expected to be complete in time for an HCHC gala fundraiser event to be held on the site in May.

The project is being overseen by George Wilcox, Project Architect with Clayton Levy Little firm of Austin. The contractor is Richard Gift, president of Gift-Neuhause Properties, Inc.

  1. FINALLY! This was in our family for over 50 years. We are thrilled to see the restoration moving forward.

  2. Great news and praise for the preservation of a truly historical building! I am interested in how the old jail will provide parking, toilets, and guides. Still, thanks to the HCHC! I look forward to visiting.
