NSF to hold funding workshop at Texas State

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Texas State will hold an NSF Day workshop on Feb. 18 at the LBJ Student Center.

There is no registration fee for the workshop, but preregistration is required by Feb. 11. Registration may be completed online at www.txstate.edu/research/avpr/nsfday.html.

This workshop is primarily designed for researchers and educators less experienced in proposing to the NSF. However, more experienced proposers and NSF grantees may find the workshop useful and informative. The NSF puts on such events to stimulate new interest in NSF programs at institutions that are not traditional NSF clients.

The NSF is one of the leading funding sources for research universities. Indeed, the Association of American Universities (AAU) names NSF funding among the leading criteria for membership in the group, which is composed of the 63 most prestigious research universities in North America.

The workshop will provide an overview of the foundation, its mission, priorities and budget. It will cover the NSF proposal and merit review process and NSF programs that cut across disciplines. Additionally, representatives from the seven NSF directorates and the Office of International Science will make presentations on their programs and also will be available informally and in breakout sessions to discuss potential research proposals.

The NSF is charged with keeping the nation’s science and engineering enterprise healthy, dynamic and relevant and with advancing science, mathematics, engineering, and technology education at all levels from pre-K through postdoctoral.
