Fees at Hays County recycling, solid waste facilities set to rise

STAFF REPORTS

Fees for some items dropped off at Hays County Recycling and Solid Waste facilities will go up effective as of Feb. 1.

“Since we have not increased fees since the 1970s, it’s not hard to believe that costs have escalated to the county for accepting, transporting and disposing of solid waste and recycling,” said Jerry Pinnix, director of the Hays County Recycling and Solid Waste department. “In many cases, even with these increases, we do not charge as much as some nearby private facilities based on a survey we did earlier in 2010.”

General household trash disposal at the Hays County facilities will increase from $5 to $8 per cubic yard with a $4 minimum. Construction materials will rise from $15 to $20 per cubic yard, with a $10 minimum. Large appliance disposal will rise from $7 to $10 per appliance.

Hays County operates two recycling and solid waste centers: 1691 Carney Lane (end of CR 278) in Wimberley and 20290 FM 150 West at CR 162 (Darden Hill Road) in Driftwood. Both facilities are open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Wednesdays, Sundays and official county holidays. For more information about items accepted by Hays County, please visit the web site for the Hays County Recycling and Solid Waste Department.
