STAFF REPORTS

Due to the generosity of San Marcos donors and the San Marcos Police Department’s Blue Santa program, children in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico were treated to a special Christmas this year.

According to Officer Danny Arredondo, the extra toys collected for the local Blue Santa Program were taken to Monclova, a sister city to San Marcos, Texas. Many toys were donated by a toy liquidator. “Upon observing the poverty there and the fact that most of those children don’t ever get to experience a Christmas at all, we decided that we would take the remaining toys down there and deliver them to children  in the most poverty stricken schools in the city,” Arredondo said.

The San Marcos program made arrangements to have the toys taken to Monclova where they were distributed by Rotary Club Members, Monclova city officials and volunteers to some of the neediest children in Monclova. Rosanna Wisener, records manager for SMPD, and her family assisted in arranging for the distribution.
