Two lanes on Wonder World Drive to close on Jan. 6

Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for the next week (Jan. 2-8) as announced by the City of San Marcos.

Cheatham Street: The 800 block will be closed daily from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. through January for water line installation. Access for residents will be available after 5:30 p.m. each day. Motorists should detour to Riverside Drive, Haynes Drive, McKinnon and Field Street. Water line installation will continue during January on Cheatham through the 1300 block with one block being closed at a time. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Craddock Avenue: From the intersection at Bishop Street to Purgatory Park Road, alternating lane closures will be in effect into January for street light installation and landscaping. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Downtown Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements:
Construction is taking place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed, but the streets will remain open. Scheduled completion the end of January. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

East Hutchison Street: On the 200 block, parking area closed and alley will be closed to through traffic between North LBJ Drive and North Edward Gary Street from January 5–31,  8 a.m.–5 p.m. due to soil removal from construction site. Business access will be permitted. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.

East McCarty Lane: Roadway is open to traffic.  Final project construction continuing with periodic lane closures expected until January. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

East Sessom Drive: Two eastbound lanes closed from North LBJ Drive to Peques Street until Jan. 14 for water line construction. Watch for traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment.  Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8010.

Field Street: The 900-1000 block is closed to through traffic between Haynes Drive and McKinnon Street until Jan. 17 for the installation of an eight-inch water line. Local access for residents only. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Haynes Drive: Street construction and paving from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street will continue throughout December. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Interstate-35, Exit 206: Southbound ramp closed until Jan. 17 with construction occuring six days per week. Motorists will use Exit 207-River Ridge Parkway and travel on the southbound frontage road to access Aquarena Springs Drive. Lane closures will occur on the frontage road, but access will be available at all times for motorists, school buses and emergency vehicles. Project completion scheduled for mid-February 2011. Also, on the interstate, the northbound left lane and the southbound right lane will be closed from 8 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday for the removal of overhead sign bridge supports. North Fredericksburg Street: On the 200 block, one northbound lane will be closed on Jan. 8 from noon-3 p.m. for memorial service at United Methodist Church. Call the San Marcos Police Department at (512) 753-2119.

Prospect Street-Bishop Street drainage improvements: Construction is underway on a drainage improvement project in the 1300 block of Prospect Street and the 600 block of Bishop Street.  Motorists should be aware of traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment. Quail Run water improvements: Water line construction is underway near the Oakridge pump station at the end of Harmon’s Way. The project includes construction of 8,600 feet of 12-inch water line from the Oakridge pumping station to the Kingswood subdivision at the intersection of Quail Run and Hamilton Hollow.  The existing four-inch line that serves the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood also will be replaced. Rio Vista Street and McKinnon Street: Construction is underway from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street to install storm sewer, water and wastewater services. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Riverside Drive: Open to traffic with utility construction continuing until further notice. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Sanitary sewer evaluation study: Uniformed inspectors are conducting below ground manhole inspections and testing through end of December within local neighborhoods to include: Westover, Heritage, Dunbar, Southwest Hills, Oak Heights, Park Place, Weatherford Heights, Coers Street and Holland Street. Sycamore Street: 900-1000 block is closed to through traffic until Jan. 17 for the installation of an eight-inch water line. Local access for residents only. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.

Wonder World Drive: One eastbound lane and one westbound lane at Interstate-35 will be closed intermittently from 7 a.m.–6 p.m. on Jan. 6 to create dual left turn lanes, restripe and add signage.  Motorists should be aware of traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment.
