Bobcats lose big at home to Rice

Seeking its second straight win, the Texas State women’s basketball team made only five field goal attempts in the first half Thursday night and lost, 97-50, to Rice at Strahan Coliseum.

The Bobcats fell to 4-8, while Rice improved to 8-5.

Rice took control of the game with a 21-5 run in the first half to take a 25-10 lead. The Bobcats were in little condition to catch up, shooting only 17.9 percent (five of 28) from the floor in the first half.

Rice held a 50-18 lead at halftime.

The Bobcats finished the game shooting only 26.7 percent (16 of 60). Rice shot 49.3 percent (35 of 71).

Jessica Kuster scored 26 points for Rice, leading all scorers. Ashley Ezeh scored 11 points to lead Texas State.

The Bobcats will finish their non-conference season on Jan. 3 against Huston-Tillotson at Strahan Coliseum (7 p.m.).
