Traffic Report: 12/26/10 to 01/01/11

Street and utility work expected to affect local traffic this week includes the closure of several streets due to the installation of water lines.

  • Cheatham Street: The 800 block will be closed daily from 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. until January for water line installation. Access for residents will be available after 5:30 p.m. each day. Motorists should detour to Riverside Drive, Haynes Drive, McKinnon and Field Street. Water line installation will continue during Jan. on Cheatham through the 1300 block with one block being closed at a time.   • Field Street: The 900-1000 block will be closed to through traffic between Haynes Drive and McKinnon until Jan. 17 for installation of an eight-inch water line. Local access for residents only. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.

  • Rio Vista Street and McKinnon: Construction underway from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street to install storm sewer, water and wastewater services.  Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Haynes Drive: There will be street construction and paving beginning on Haynes Drive from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street in January. Rio Vista Terrace  Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Riverside Drive: This street will be open to traffic with utility construction continuing until further notice. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • East Hutchison Street: Constuction along the 200 block, parking area closed and alley will be closed between North LBJ Drive and North Edward Gary Street to through traffic from Jan. 5 –  31, 2011, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. due to soil removal from a construction site.   • North Fredericksburg Street: Along the 200 block, one northbound lane closed on Jan. 8, from 12  p.m.– 3 p.m., for memorial service at the First United Methodist Church.  San Marcos Police Department, 512-753-2119.
  • Southbound Interstate 35 Exit Ramp 206: Closed until Janu. 17 with construction occurring six days a week. Motorists will use Exit 207-River Ridge Parkway and travel on the southbound frontage road to access Aquarena Springs Drive-Loop 82. Lane closures will  occur on the frontage road, but access will be available at all times for motorists, school buses and emergency vehicles.   • East Sessom Drive: Two eastbound lanes closed from North LBJ Drive to Ed JL Green Street from Dec. 20 – Jan. 14, 2011, for water line construction. Watch for traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment.  Public Services – W/WW, 512-393-8010.
  • East McCarty Lane: This roadway is now open to traffic. The final project construction continuing with periodic lane closures expected until January. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • South LBJ Drive: The 200 – 300 block; all lanes are open to traffic. Watch for construction equipment and workers near the roadway as project nears  completion on this portion of the Waterline Encasement Project to upgrade the city’s waterline crossings at the railroad tracks.   • Ebony Street and Parker Drive: All streets are open and the clean-up of the project area is underway. The construction of a concrete drainage channel and pipe system is also complete.   Capital  Improvements, 512- 393-8130.
  • Quail Run Water Improvements: Quail Run residents and property owners near the Oakridge  water pump station at the end of Harmon’s Way will notice water line construction underway. The project includes construction of 8,600 feet of 12-inch water line from the Oakridge pumping station to the Kingswood subdivision at the intersection of Quail Run  and Hamilton Hollow. The existing four-inch line that serves the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood will also be replaced. Project completion is expected in June 2011. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Prospect-Bishop Drainge Improvement: Construction is underway on a drainage improvement project along the 1300 block of Prospect Street and the 600 block of Bishop Street. Motorists should be aware of traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Craddock Avenue Extension: Between Bishop-Craddock intersection and Purgatory Park Road will have alternating lane closures into Jan. for street  light installation and landscaping. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study: Uniformed inspectors are conducting below ground manhole inspections and testing until Feb. within local neighborhoods to include:  Westover, Heritage, Dunbar, Southwest Hills, Oak Heights, Park Place, Weatherford Heights, Coers Street and Holland Street.   • Downtown ADA Improvements: Construction will take place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed but the streets will remain open. Scheduled completion is end of January. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
