Traffic Report: 12/12/10 to 12/18/10

Street and utility work expected to affect local traffic this week will include an interstate exit closure for Aquarena Springs Drive. Charles Austin Drive will be closed on Dec. 17 and 18 due to a Texas State event. The grand opening of E. McCarty Lane is set for Dec. 17.

  • Aquarena Springs Drive: At Interstate 35, there will be one eastbound lane closed from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Dec. 15 for road work. Motorists should be aware of traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment. Aquarena Springs Turn Lanes Project, Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Charles Austin Drive: Will be closed on Dec. 17 – 18, from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. between Jowers Access and Aquarena Springs Drive due to Texas State University event. Motorists are advised to use C.M. Allen Parkway, University Drive, Aquarena Springs Drive or Thorpe Street to avoid the area. Texas State University-San Marcos Police Department, 512-245-6272.
  • East McCarty Lane: The grand opening celebration is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. and will be open to the public. The road will open later the same day. Until Dec. 17, both lanes will remain closed in each direction from Interstate 35 frontage road to Old Bastrop Highway. Local access for residents will remain but school, postal, emergency and other motorists will be detoured to Clovis R. Barker Road or Centerpoint Road. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • East Hutchison Street: On the 200 block, the alley between North LBJ Drive and North Edward Gary Street will be closed on Dec. 15 – 17, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. for soil borings in the alley. Public Services, 512-393-8036.
  • Southbound Interstate 35 exit ramp 206: Construction is underway at Aquarena Springs Drive-Loop 82 exit. From Dec. 20 to Jan. 17 the exit ramp will be closed with construction six days a week. Motorists will use exit 207-River Ridge Parkway and travel on the southbound frontage road to access Aquarena Springs Drive. Lane closures will occur on the frontage road, but access will be available at all times for motorists, school buses and emergency vehicles. Project completion scheduled for mid-February 2011.   • Quail Run Water Improvements: Quail Run residents and property owners near the Oakridge water pump station at the end of Harmon’s Way will notice water line construction underway. The project includes construction of 8,600 feet of 12-inch water line from the Oakridge pumping station to the Kingswood subdivision at the intersection of Quail Run and Hamilton Hollow. The existing four inch line that serves the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood will also be replaced. Project completion is expected in June 2011. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Prospect-Bishop Drainage Improvements: Construction is underway on a drainage improvement project in the 1300 block of Prospect Street and the 600 block of Bishop Street. Motorists should be aware of traffic flaggers, construction workers and heavy equipment. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Field Street: 1000 – 1100 block, closed to through traffic between Haynes Drive and McKinnon until the end of Dec. for installation of 8-inch water line. Local access for residents only. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project.  Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.

  • Rio Vista Street and Mckinnon: Construction is underway from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street to install storm sewer, water and wastewater services. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Haynes Drive: Street construction and paving beginning on Haynes Drive from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street and continuing throughout December. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Cheatham Street: 1000 block, the designated right turn lane on to Rio Vista Street will be closed through December.  Motorists may continue to Cheatham-Rio Vista intersection to turn right. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Riverside Drive: Will be open to traffic with utility construction continuing until further notice. Rio Vista Terrace Neighborhood Infrastructure project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Edward Gary Street & South LBJ Drive: The intersection at 200-300 block of S. LBJ Drive  is open but utility work will occur periodically and traffic will be detoured to San Antonio Street. This is part of the Waterline Encasements project. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • South LBJ Drive: 200 – 300 block, the northbound right lane will be closed for utility work. Estimated completion in December as water line issues have been encountered. This is part of the Waterline Encasement Project to upgrade the city’s waterline crossings at the railroad tracks. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Ebony Street and Parker Drive: The intersection will remain open while the drainage improvement project continues with detours. Traffic will detour to Highway 123, Hays Street, Parker Drive, Broadway Street, Oakdale Drive, Patricia Drive and Ebony Street. The project consists of construction on Ebony Street and the 100 – 400 block of Parker Drive to install a concrete drainage channel and pipe system. Construction will continue until Jan. 2011.   • Craddock Avenue Extension: between Bishop-Craddock intersection and Purgatory Park Road will have alternating lane closures in December for street light installation and landscaping. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
  • Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Study: Uniformed inspectors will begin above ground manhole inspections and testing through the end of December within local neighborhoods to include: Westover, Heritage, Dunbar, Southwest Hills, Oak Heights, Park Place, Weatherford Heights, Coers Street and Holland Street.   • Downtown ADA Improvements: Construction will take place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed but the streets will remain open. The scheduled completion is set for the end of December. Capital Improvements, 512-393-8130.
