Earlier this month in Miller Middle School’s teachers workroom, teacher Rudiche (Rudy) Welchptak got a surprise in the form of two checks for $1,000 each from the Horace Mann Insurance Group.
One check was for Welchptak’s personal use, and the other was for him to donate to an education-related non-profit organization or school project.
The money from Horace Mann Insurance Companies was part of its “Win$Win” sweepstakes. The contest was open to educators only.
The sweepstakes featured one grand prize of $5,000 to an educator, with an additional $5,000 to an educational cause. There were 16 first prizes, such as Welchptak won. Eight second prizes of $500 to the educator and $500 to an educational cause also were awarded.
Horace Mann agent Ragan Neal said that, in total, the sweepstakes had awarded 81 prizes and donations totaling $78,000 nationwide.
Horace Mann provided a light lunch for the teachers gathered to celebrate Welchptak’s win. Horace Mann agent Omar Guerrero joined with Neal to present the checks. Also present at the celebration was San Marcos CISD Assistant for Human Resources Dr. Lolly Guerra and San Marcos Mayor Daniel Guerrero.
Horace Mann, founded in 1945, is the largest national multi-line insurance company with a focus on educators.
