STAFF REPORTS
The city of San Marcos capital improvements department will restripe and add signage to a portion of eastbound Aquarena Springs Drive on Wednesday, Dec. 15 in order to create dual left turn lanes to access Interstate 35 north.
To minimize impact on motorists, the one-day project will be completed during off-peak traffic hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15. Cold temperatures could be a factor in the project timeline. One east bound lane on Aquarena Springs Drive/Loop 82 will be open at all times, with work scheduled to begin in the right lane and move to the left lane.
“As the primary exitway from Texas State University, this intersection experiences delays due to the large amount of traffic accessing the interstate,” said Jennifer Shell, interim director of capital improvements. “The two turn lanes will help accommodate heavy daily turning traffic and improve traffic flow during big events, such as the upcoming Texas State graduation ceremonies.”
Highway Technologies, Inc. of Austin was awarded the $9,677 construction contract with Iteris, Inc. of Austin serving as the design engineer. The turn lane improvements will be accomplished through lane restriping, the addition of signage and signal light timing. Completion of the project has been scheduled prior to Dec. 20 when southbound Interstate 35 exit 206 for Aquarena Springs Drive/Loop 82 will be closed for renovations as part of the River Ridge Entrance Ramp project.
