The San Marcos Police Department (SMPD) is seeking donations and volunteers for its Operation Blue Santa, which is underway for the holiday season.
Applications for assistance from Operation Blue Santa will be accepted until Dec. 15 and may be downloaded in English or Spanish at www.sanmarcostx.gov. They may also be picked up at or returned to the Texas Department of Health & Human Services (1901 Dutton Drive), Southside Community Center (518 South Guadalupe Street) and the SMPD offices (2300 South Interstate-35).
Individuals applying for assistance must provide proof of residency within the San Marcos city limits and the children listed on the application must reside in the applicant’s household.
“Blue Santa represents a police officer in uniform who gives a toy to a child in need within our community,” said SMPD officer and Blue Santa program coordinator Danny Arredondo. “SMPD is proud to have participated in Operation Blue Santa for 34 years and we hope to bring Christmas joy to more than 900 San Marcos children this year.”
Donations for Blue Santa also will be accepted until Dec. 15. Requested items include new unwrapped toys, cash or check contributions and gift wrapping supplies.
Blue barrels are available for new toy donations at the SMPD offices, San Marcos fire stations or City Hall. Cash or check donations may be made at the SMPD.
Volunteers also are needed to assist Blue Santa with gift wrapping, sorting and delivery at the following sessions:
At the SMPD: Dec. 14, 6-9 p.m. for toy wrapping; Dec. 16, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. for toy wrapping; and Dec. 20, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for wrapping and transfer.
At the San Marcos Activity Center (501 East Hopkins Street): Dec. 21, 3-9 p.m, for toy wrapping and bagging; and Dec. 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., for toy distribution and pick-up.
Each approved Blue Santa applicant will receive a letter about toy pickup scheduled at the Activity Center on Dec. 21. The letter must be presented at the toy distribution. Gifts not picked up by 2 p.m. on Dec. 22 will be delivered by SMPD and Blue Santa elves on Dec. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon.Email | Print
