The municipal solid waste task force will host a focus group meeting Thursday, Dec. 16, to gather public input on how the city of San Marcos and the downtown business community should manage solid waste.
The meeting is open to the public and the focus group meeting will be held Dec. 16 at 11:30 a.m. in the Tap Room, 129 E Hopkins #120. Businesses are encouraged to attend and a lunch will be provided. In keeping with the city council’s goal to support environmental protection and smart growth, the municipal solid waste task force is developing a comprehensive solid-waste management plan in cooperation with the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and the city’s transportation division of public services.
The purpose of the comprehensive solid-waste management plan is to design and implement an integrated solid-waste system that responds to the city’s goals and the impact of growth, using economies of scale and public-private partnerships. The scope of the project includes identification of urban growth and solid-waste trends; review of existing services such as solid waste and recycling; identification of community vision and requests including pay as you throw, brushy waste, hazardous waste, composting, solid waste, and recycling; and development of a comprehensive, strategic plan that maximizes efficiencies, affordability, sustainability and public-private partnerships.
