Wimberley continued its roll through the 2010 high school football season Friday night, marking up a 43-35 win against Cuero and advancing to the Class 3A Region IV semifinals.
The Texans rallied from a touchdown behind in the third quarter with three straight touchdowns, advancing to a 43-29 lead in the final minute.
Wimberley, 12-0, plays Friday at Brenham against Sweeny, which is 8-3, in the regional semifinal round.
Running back Trinity Wilson and quarterback Brady Lambert both tore it up on the ground for the Texans. Wilson gained 142 yards with three touchdowns in 21 carries, while Lambert rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns in 19 carries. Lambert also passed for 192 yards, completing eight of 13 passes.
In a game that went back and forth for the first 30 minutes, Cuero held a 29-21 lead in the middle of the third quarter. But Wilson ran 17 yards for a touchdown, then caught the conversion pass from Lambert to tie the game, 29-29, with 4:23 left in the third period.
An 18-yard touchdown run for Lambert early in the fourth period, followed by a one-yard touchdown run by Wilson late in the fourth period, increased the Wimberley lead to 43-29.
Wimberley ended the game with 499 total yards, compared with 413 for Cuero. Quarterback Mason Blaschke finished with 329 total yards for Cuero, completing 15 of 26 passes for 288 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, and rushing for 41 yards in 19 carries.Email | Print
