Jamie Lee Pettijohn, recently hired as the new city secretary for San Marcos, will begin work on Dec. 6.
San Marcos City Councilmembers appointed Pettijohn on Nov. 1. Pettijohn presently works as the city secretary in Gonzales.
Pettijohn will be responsible for official records of city council meetings, records management, board appointments, public notices, city elections, birth and death records and passports, and support services for the city council.
Pettijohn became city secretary and zoning administrator for Gonzales in Feb. 2010 after joining the city staff there as a public administration intern in 2009.
As an intern, Pettijohn amended the city’s personnel policy handbook, assisted the economic development director to bring the Visionaries in Preservation program, which is offered through the Texas Historical Commission, to Gonzales. Pettijohn also worked on various projects with the city manager in Gonzales.
In Gonzales, Pettijohn has administered records management, written grants, conducted elections, and served as planning and zoning administrator. Before joining Gonzales, Pettijohn was a manager for H-E-B in Gonzales, Bryan and College Station.
Pettijohn is a 2009 graduate of Texas State in public administration. She is enrolled in the Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program through the University of North Texas. She plans to seek her masters degree in public administration in fall 2011.
Pettijohn succeeds Sherry Mashburn as the San Marcos city clerk. Mashburn left in August to become city secretary for College Station. Shelley Goodwin has served as interim city clerk.Email | Print
