Ruptured water main closes Sessom Drive indefinitely

City of San Marcos water crews are working to repair a ruptured 12-inch water main that has closed Sessom Drive between Peques Street and North LBJ Drive since late Saturday night.

Motorists are asked to detour around the area using University Drive, Comanche and Ranch Road 12. Sessom is barricaded at the North LBJ and Peques Street intersections.

Sessom is a major roadway serving the Texas State University campus. It will remain closed until further notice as City water and street crews work on the repairs. Water service to a shopping center and the university’s Physical Plant building has been disrupted by the break.

The 12-inch main was encased in concrete, making it difficult for crews to find the extent of the line fracture, said Jon Clack, Assistant Director of Public Services, Water/ Wastewater Utility.

The 12-inch water line broke near the curve on Sessom Drive across the street from the Physical Plant. Crews were able to valve off the broken main and have been working non-stop to repair the line and the street.

Clack said Sessom will be closed until the repairs can be made because of the extent of the damage to the roadway.
