Council names Pettijohn as city clerk

Jamie Lee Pettijohn, city secretary for Gonzales, will join the city of San Marcos as City Clerk on Dec. 6, the same day incoming City Manager Jim Nuse will be begin his duties.

She was appointed Nov. 1 by the city council and has accepted the position. Pettijohn will be responsible for official records of city council meetings, records management, board appointments, public notices, City elections, birth and death records and passports, and support services for the city council.

She has worked with the City of Gonzales as City Secretary and Zoning Administrator since February 2010 after joining the staff as a Public Administration Intern in 2009.

As an intern, Pettijohn amended the City’s Personnel Policy Handbook, assisted the Economic Development Director in bringing the Visionaries in Preservation program, which is offered through the Texas Historical Commission, to Gonzales.  She also worked on various projects with the City Manager.

In Gonzales, she has administered records management, written grants, conducted elections, and served as planning and zoning administrator. Before joining the City of Gonzales, Pettijohn was a manager for HEB Grocery in Gonzales, Bryan and College Station.

A 2009 graduate of Texas State University in Public Administration, Pettijohn is currently enrolled in the Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program through the University of North Texas. She plans to seek her Masters in Public Administration in fall 2011.

Pettijohn succeeds Sherry Mashburn as San Marcos City Clerk, who left in August to become City Secretary for College Station. Shelley Goodwin has served as Interim City Clerk.
