Gray Horse Saloon hosting benefit for local musician

A benefit for the family of local musician and resident Sean Wilkerson will be held on Nov. 22 at the Gray Horse Saloon, 1904 RR12. A $5 donation will be taken at the door but is not required for entry. There will also be a silent auction and barbecue plates beginning at 5 p.m.

Wilkerson, 24, perished after sustaining major head injuries in a skateboarding accident. A graduate of San Marcos High School in 2004, he played for the football team and was also the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He went on to attend the University of Texas-San Antonio.

A member of the local bluegrass bands Sasquatch Holler and Smoky Hill String Band; he was an active member of the local music community. Those bands headlining at his benefit will be Matt Begley and Bitter Whiskey. The music will officially kick off at 8 p.m. and many other musicians will be performing in a tribute to Wilkerson.

Robbie and the Robots, the Smoky Hill String Band, Crystal Creek Boys and Firewater Sermon are some of the other bands expected to be in attendance. However, artists such as Mark Von Diehl, Bo Cox, Michael Kelton and Andy Bertelson will also be performing.
