Street and utility work expected to affect local traffic this week:
WEST HUTCHISON STREET AT COMANCHE: Intersection will be closed periodically throughout November for water line installation. Traffic will detour to North Street, Lindsey Street, North Comanche Street, Pat Garrison Street, North Fredericksburg Street, West Hutchison Street and North Guadalupe Street. Construction is part of the Comanche 12-inch Water Line Project. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
EAST MCCARTY LANE: Opening date has been postponed due to construction issues and material supply delays. Both lanes will remain closed in each direction from IH 35 frontage road to Old Bastrop Highway until mid-December. Local access for residents will remain but school, postal, emergency and other motorists will be detoured to Clovis R. Barker Road or Centerpoint Road. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
COMANCHE STREET: Water line construction continues on Comanche between West Martin Luther King Drive and Hutchison Street with lane and intersection closures on Hopkins. Watch for heavy equipment. Traffic will detour to West Hopkins Street, South Guadalupe Street, West Martin Luther King Drive, North Street, Harvey Street, Nance Street and West San Antonio Street. PURGATORY PARK ACCESS FROM FRANKLIN DRIVE is permanently closed. Persons interested in accessing the park will need to approach from Ranch Road 12 or Hunter Road to Wonder World Drive and turn south at the Craddock intersection. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
SANITARY SEWER EVALUATION STUDY: Uniformed inspectors will begin above ground manhole inspections and testing through end of December within local neighborhoods to include: Westover, Heritage, Dunbar, Southwest Hills, Oak Heights, Park Place, Weatherford Heights, Coers Street and Holland Street. EDWARD GARY STREET & SOUTH LBJ DRIVE: Intersection at 200-300 block S LBJ Dr will be closed through mid-November for utility work. Traffic will be detoured to San Antonio Street. This is part of the Waterline Encasements project. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
SOUTH LBJ DRIVE: 200 – 300 block, the northbound right lane will be closed for utility work. Estimated completion in late November. This is part of the Waterline Encasement Project to upgrade the City’s waterline crossings at the railroad tracks. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
RIVERSIDE DRIVE is closed between Riviera and Cheatham Street through mid-November due to additional utility and wastewater work. Motorists will be detoured to Cheatham Street and Hopkins Street. CHEATHAM STREET is open to traffic with utility construction continuing until further notice on Haynes Drive from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street, and on Rio Vista Street and McKinnon from Haynes Drive to Cheatham Street to install storm sewer, water and wastewater services. EBONY STREET & PARKER DRIVE intersection is open but drainage improvement project continues with detours. Traffic will detour to Hwy 123, Hays Street, Parker Drive, Broadway Street, Oakdale Drive, Patricia Drive and Ebony Street. The project consists of construction on Ebony Street and the 100 – 400 block of Parker Drive to install a concrete drainage channel and pipe system. Construction will continue until January 2011. DOWNTOWN ADA IMPROVEMENTS: Construction will take place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed but the streets will remain open. Scheduled completion is late November. Capital Improvements, 393.8130.
