As November is American Diabetes Month, Central Texas Medical Center’s (CTMC) Institute for Healthy Living is holding its second annual Diabetes Dialogue Day Saturday.
The half-day event of cooking demonstrations, screenings and educational lectures will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom.
Attendees can receive blood sugar screenings, a healthy cooking demo by CTMC registered dietitians, a body composition screening, door prizes and a complimentary lunch. CTMC physicians who will speak about diabetes management and prevention include Drs. Hector Castro, Patrick Kimbrell, B.J. Friedman and Faisal Syed.
The American Diabetes Association said 24 million children and adults in the United States live with diabetes. If current trends continue, one out of every three children will face a future with diabetes.
“It is important for diabetics to understand this disease can be controlled through education and regular screenings from medical professionals, “ said Mario Torres, CTMC Diabetes Educator. “Diabetes Dialogue Day is an opportunity for diabetics to receive important screenings and information that are key components to managing the disease.”
