The Texas State volleyball team is solidly in third place entering its final two games of the regular season this week at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats are 17-11 overall and 10-4 in the Southland Conference. The league leaders, Central Arkansas and Texas San-Antonio (UTSA), each are 13-1 in the conference.
As it happens, UTSA is coming to Strahan Coliseum to play the Bobcats Thursday night (6:30 p.m.). The Bobcats will close out the regular season at Strahan Coliseum Saturday (2 p.m.) against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Texas State is on a three-match winning streak entering the week, sweeping Stephen F. Austin (SFA), Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana. The winning streak followed consecutive losses against league power Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State.
The Bobcats won at SFA by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-18. Mo Middleton scored on 12 of 17 kill attempts for a career-high .706 hitting percentage.
Returning to Strahan Coliseum on Nov. 4, the Bobcats beat Nicholls State 25-18, 25-22 amd 25-20. The Bobcats spread it around, as Matti Schumacher led the team with nine kills, Melinda Cave had seven, and AJ Watlington and Amber Calhoun each had six.
Another sweep against Southeastern Louisiana at Strahan Coliseum went by scores of 25-18, 25-9 amd 25-18. The Bobcats balanced again as Amari Deardorff led the team with 11 kills and 11 different Bobcats had at least one kill.
The Bobcats have clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament, which takes place next weekend at Sam Houston State. With a win this week, the Bobcats would clinch third place in the league. Two losses could drop them into a three-way tie with Lamar and Texas-Arlington. The Bobcats lost their matches this season against each of those teams.Email | Print
