The Texas State soccer team lasted to the semifinals and nearly marked the weekend as their own when they were hosts to the Southland Conference Tournament.
The Bobcats took league favorite Southeastern Louisiana to overtime before losing, 3-2, in the semifinal round.
Southeastern’s Natalie Santana scored eight minutes into overtime to decide the game. But the Bobcats made it exciting, rallying to tie the game after trailing, 2-0, through 76 minutes of regulation time. Felicia Leask and Emma Stanley scored the Texas State goals that tied the game.
Texas State ends the season 12-8-1.
Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) won the tournament, defeating Southeastern Lousiana, 1-0, in an overtime championship game. Maria Jose Rojas scored the game winner in the 93rd minute.
Southeastern Louisiana won the regular season title with a 7-1-1 record, followed by UTSA and Stephen F. Austin at 6-2-1.
UTSA, 13-7-2 overall, will go on the road to face Portland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Portland, 18-1-1, is ranked second in the country.
The Bobcats advanced to the league tournament semifinal round with a 2-1 win against Sam Houston State in the first round. Britney Curry and Jessica Etling scored the Texas State goals.
Curry finished her senior season with 14 goals, bringing her school career record to 51.
