Krystal Cortez, a kindergartner from Crockett Elementary School, is the San Marcos CISD Student of the Month for November.

San Marcos CISD Superintendent Patty Shafer met with Cortez last week to present her a certificate and explain the meaning of the honor.

“Krystal is a brave young lady,” Crockett Principal Rick LaBuhn said. “Both of her parents are in the Army, so she lives with her grandparents while they are deployed and in training.

“Krystal was recently honored in our Early Act-First Knight ceremony by Mrs. Brandi Martin, her teacher,” LaBuhn continued. “Mrs. Martin says that Krystal is helpful, tolerant, respectful, and responsible in class.”

LaBuhn said that Cortez is a model student who always has a smile on her face and is a good example for her peers.

“She is a pleasure to have at Crockett,” said LaBuhn.

Cortez enjoys playing outside, reading, gym class and children’s museums.

Shafer sent a letter of congratulations to Cortez’s grandparents to share with her parents.
