Bluebonnet Lions to sponsor 'Thankful Turkey' Run/Walk


The eighth annual Thankful Turkey 5K Run/Walk is a fundraiser for the San Marcos Bluebonnet Lions. The race features prizes and a bit of pre-Thanksgiving exercise.


On Nov. 20, the San Marcos Bluebonnet Lions Club will host the eighth annual Thankful Turkey 5K Run/Walk at River Ridge Business Park on River Ridge Parkway.

Pre-registration for the charity event is $20 and must be received by Nov. 14. Late registration can be done the day of the race for $25. Any current Texas State student will receive a $3 discount with a current student ID. Registration may be done online at

The wheelchair division will start at 7:55 a.m. Other racers will start at 8 a.m. The 5K course is a fast and flat ground run within the River Ridge Business Park.

All pre-registered participants will receive a “Thankful Turkey 5K” t-shirt. Shirts are guaranteed to the first 150 participants. The shirts may be picked up on race day, only in the registration area, beginning at 7 a.m.

The race is divided into age divisions, including 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and older, and wheelchair.

The top three male and female finishers in each division will receive awards. The first place award is a turkey, the second place award is a ham and the third place award is a pie. The awards presentation will be held at 9:30 a.m.

All the proceeds from the race will go back into the San Marcos community benefiting local and Lions Club charities and youth programs.
