Award-winning auther Doug Dorst will read at the Katherine Anne Porter House Friday.

Doug Dorst, award winning author of Alive In Necropolis, will hold a reading and book signing Friday at 5 p.m. at the Katherine Anne Porter House, 508 Center Street in Kyle. The event is free and open to the public.
The event is co-sponsored by the Therese Kayser Lindsey Reading Series and Texas State’s Department of English.
Dorst, a native of New York, was a longtime resident of the bay area in California, where Alive In Necropolis won San Francisco’s 2009 One City Book selection as well as the Emperor Norton Award. He was a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford. Durst moved to Austin in 2006.
The author is a graduate of the prestigious Iowa Writer’s Workshop. He also holds the distinction of being a three-time “” Jeopardy!” contestant and champion in 2006.
Dorst has been the recipient of fellowships from Stanford and the National Endowment for the Arts.
His most recent book, a collection of short stories entitled The Surf Guru, has received much critical acclaim. His short story work has appeared in many literary journals, including McSweeney’s, Ploughshares, and Epoch.
Dorst currently teaches creative writing at St. Edward’s University.
