Student of the Month Brittany Howard (left) gets certificate from San Marcos CISD Superintendent Patty Shafer.
San Marcos High School (SMHS) senior Brittany Howard was recently selected as the San Marcos CISD Superintendent’s Student of the Month for October.
Superintendent Patty Shafer met with Howard to congratulate her and present her with a certificate.
“We’re proud to have you represent our district,” said Shafer to the award-winning student.
Howard was recommended for the honor by SMHS principle Michelle Darling who said, “(She) represents passionate commitment to her own learning as well as passionate commitment to her school … Brittany is an active member of our award-winning Speech and Debate program, and she is serving a paid internship with A+ Federal Credit Union.”
Howard has been an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) participant for three years and is taking Advanced Placement Classes. The AVID program prepares students for college eligibility. Howard recently learned that she has been named an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar, an honor given by the College Board for her excellent test scores.
Howard’s favorite subject is English. She is the president and co-founder of the Poetry Club. She is also president of the XYZ Club. She plays Powder Puff football and sings in the Annointed Voices choir.
Howard also interns in the office of State Representative Patrick Rose (D-San Marcos). She plans to attend Texas State and says that she wants to be “another Oprah” someday.
Myrtle Howard is Brittany’s very proud mother.
