The City of San Marcos is sponsoring an art contest for children in kindergarten through fifth grade with the theme “My Favorite Place in San Marcos.” The deadline for entering the contest is Oct. 29.
The winning artist will be recognized on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the World Town Planning Day Celebration slated to be at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 East Hopkins Street. Students and their families are urged to attend the event.
A culturally diverse panel of judges will select first, second and third place winners, as well as three honorable mentions. The judges will look for originality, balance, creativity and compliance with contest rules.
The artwork cannot be computer generated and photgraphs are not allowed. The work may be done with magic markers, colored pencils, crayons, paint, chalk or charcoal and should be on a letter-sized (8 1/2 inches by 11 inches) piece of standard art paper.
Entries may be turned in to the city planning department on the second floor of the municipal building at 630 East Hopkins Street. Students may also turn in their artwork to the principal’s office at their schools. The city will collect the artwork from each school on Nov. 1.
The winning entries may be used by the city in visual and print media and the first place winner will be framed and displayed in City Hall, 630 East Hopkins Street.
All the winning entries will be on public display for around ten days at City Hall.
