The Hays County Recycling and Solid Waste Department is offering Hays County residents the opportunity to safely recycle their household hazardous materials 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Precinct 4 Recycling Station, 20290 FM 150 at County Road 162 (Darden Hill Road).Accepted items include drain cleaners, concentrates, degreasers, oven cleaners, solvents, polishers, pool chemicals, household batteries, latex- and oil-based paints, spray paints, thinners, strippers, preservatives, brush cleaners, pesticides (liquids, sprays, dusts), weed killers, rat poison, insecticides, anti-freeze, motor oil and oil filters and brake and transmission fluids.
Hays County Recycling Director Jerry Pinnix reminded residents to transport household hazardous materials safely. “Don’t combine chemicals – keep them in their original containers if possible,” Pinnix said. “If the containers are broken or leaking, place the materials in containers of the same type. Transport chemicals in the trunk, not in the passenger compartment.”
