The Texas State volleyball team won its first match in nearly a month Saturday, defeating Northwestern State in three games at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats prevailed by scores of 25-12, 25-23 and 25-16. With the win, Texas State improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the Southland Conference. Northwestern State is 10-9 and 2-5.
Melinda Cave and Amari Deardorff led the Bobcats with eight kills each, while Shelbi Irvin finished with 26 assists. Caleigh McCorquodale had 18 assists.
Madeline Gaffney led the Bobcats with a .750 hitting percentage, followed by Deardorff with a .615 percentage and Amber Calhoun at .556.
Defensively, Danielle Sanchou led the Bobcats with 15 digs.
Before playing Northwestern State, the Bobcats played nine straight matches on the road, winning five and losing four. The last of those was a five-game loss at Texas-Arlington on Oct. 6. The Bobcats had last played at home on Sept. 11 in a three-game loss to Alabama.
The Bobcats will return to action at Strahan Coliseum Thursday against Sam Houston State (6:30 p.m.).Email | Print
