Texas State’s Cancer Advocacy Movement for Colleges and Outreach (CAMCO) will host a fashion show Wednesday.

STAFF REPORT

The Texas State Cancer Advocacy Movement for Colleges and Outreach (CAMCO) organization will start its fall events for the 2010-11 school year with the Texas State Bra Night and Fashion Show Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. The event will be at the Alkek Teaching Theater on the campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The event will feature food and two door prizes — an iPad and a Dell laptop computer.

More than 20 student organizations will take part in a bra-decorating contest to help raise awareness of breast cancer. The decorated “cancer” bras will be tastefully modeled with jeans. Fashions from area stores also will be featured. The fashion show starts at 7 p.m.

Sponsoring the event are the Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Be the Match (a national marrow donor registry program), American Cancer Society, Texas Oncology, Texas State Office of Disabilities Services, Texas State FashioNation and CAMCOSO (the CAMCO student organization.)

CAMCO ‘s fashion show is the first in a series of events it will sponsor throughout the academic year.

October events include a campus wide “pink out” and a campus visit by the Lone Star Circle of Life Bike Tour, in which cyclists are traveling the state promoting the need for lifesaving organ and marrow donations. The riders will be in San Marcos on Oct. 28  at 1 p.m. The cyclists, as well as people stricken with cancer, will be honored at George’s Tavern in the LBJ Student Center.

Texas State CAMCO will collaborate with the Pink Heals organization for the “Pink Fire Truck” event in downtown San Marcos Friday.

CAMCO at Texas State will also take part in the Komen Race for the Cure on Nov. 7 in Austin.

In March  of 2011, CAMCO will sponsor a week-long bone marrow donor drive on the campus of Texas State.
