American pragmatism will be the discussion theme when the Philosophy Dialogue Series convenes at Texas State next week.
The talks will begin Monday at 12:30 p.m., when Texas State philosopher Eli Kanon will take up “Qualified Beneficence.”
Three discussions will take place Tuesday. At 9:30 a.m., Texas State philosopher Lijun Yuan will lead the discussion about “Feminism and Issues of Pornography.” At 12:30 p.m., dialogue class members will turn over Willard Von Orman Quine’s role in the linguistic turn that dominated 20th century philosophy. At 3:30 p.m., Texas State philosopher Jo Ann Carson will speak on John Dewey’s pragmatic educational philosophy.
Wednesday, at 12:30 p.m., Texas State alumnus and attorney Charles Zech will discuss “Pragmatic Ethics for Public Administrators.” At 12:30 p.m. Thursday, dialogue class members will talk about “American Women Pragmatist-Reformers.” The guest speaker will be Texas State poltical scientist Pat Shields.
The weekly “Talk of the Times” discussion will take place Friday at 12:30 p.m.
All events will take place in Psychology 132.
