Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), 1301 Wonder World Drive, will offer new courses for expectant mothers this fall aimed at keeping fit and happy throughout their pregnancy. The courses are part of CTMC’s Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Institute and Institute for Healthy Living. The classes will focust on stretching, breathing and cardio fitness.
“Fit For Delivery” is a class which is unique in its design for the second trimester of pregnancy. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:15 p.m. in CTMC’s Community Classroom. The classes begin the first week of November and will cost $35 per month. Another new class, Aqua Fit for Moms will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6 p.m.
“These targeted exercises can benefit the mind, body and spirit by boosting a mother’s energy level, helping her sleep better and diminishing any stress or anxiety,” said Maggie Young, CTMC’s Fit for Delivery instructor. “In addition to preparing the mother for labor, the classes aid in postpartum recovery.”
Young also is a certified instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America.
Other classes of interest for fathers and mothers-to-be include “Baby Basics,” breastfeeding classes, car seat safety checks, Cesarean section class, “Cradle of Care,” childbirth education for first-time moms, childbirth refresher course, and “Dads 101.”
