The Texas State women’s tennis team posted one second-place finish and three third-place finishes at the Stephen F. Austin (SFA) Fall Invitational during the weekend.
The Bobcats finished the final day winning Sunday two of their four matches played. Mariana Perez won her singles match, while Jessica Laing and Jessica Kahts won a doubles match on Sunday.
Perez won her third-place match in the Flight D singles division with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Natalie Hand of Tyler Junior College to finish the tournament with a 3-1 record. Perez also recorded wins over Tea Tvrtkovic of McNeese State before dropping her semifinal match against Amrinette Botha of Sam Houston State.
Kahts finished as the runner-up in the top division after falling 6-4, 6-3, in her championship match against Elisha Gabb of Lee College. Kahts advanced to the finals with wins over Imke Jagau of Sam Houston State, Brooke Dennis of Tyler Junior College and Jana Secheno of McNeese State.
Texas State’s Jessica Laing finished in fourth place after falling 7-6, 6-2 in the third-place match in the Flight C singles division. Laing won her first singles match against Maria Frausto of McNeese State before falling to Bianca Schulz of Northwestern State in the semifinals.
In doubles action, Texas State’s Melissa Hadad and Gabriella Rojas finished the tournament with a 2-2 record in the top doubles flight after falling 8-1 in their final match.
In the second division, Kahts and Laing finished in third place. Kahts and Laing finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.Email | Print
