Following are the road and street projects affecting traffic in San Marcos for the this week (Sept. 27-Oct. 2) as announced by the City of San Marcos.
Cheatham Street: Open to traffic with construction continuing until further notice on Haynes Street from Riverside Drive to Cheatham Street and on Rio Vista Drive and McKinnon Street from Haynes Street to Cheatham Street, to install storm sewer, water and wastewater lines. This is part of the Rio Vista Terrace neighborhood improvement project. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.
Comanche Street: Water line construction continues on Comanche Street between West Martin Luther King Drive and Hutchison Street, with periodic lane and intersection closures on Hopkins Street. Traffic will be detoured to West Hopkins Street, South Guadalupe Street, West Martin Luther King Drive, North Street, Harvey Street, Nance Street and West San Antonio Street. Craddock Avenue: Construction on the Craddock Avenue extension from Bishop Street to Wonder World Drive will continue through October. The intersection of Bishop Street and Craddock Avenue is open, but future closure is anticipated for final overlay, milling and striping at the end of September. Motorists should watch for heavy construction equipment at Wonder World Drive, Bishop Street and the park road at the end of Franklin Drive. Access to Purgatory Creek will be limited at the Craddock Avenue intersection. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
Downtown Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements: Construction is taking place on many of the handicap ramps throughout the downtown area. Lanes will be closed, but the streets will remain open. Scheduled completion is Oct. 1. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.
East McCarty Lane: Both lanes are closed in each direction from the Interstate-35 frontage road to Old Bastrop Highway until scheduled completion on Nov. 13. Local access for residents will remain, but school, postal, emergency and other motorists will be detoured to use Clovis R. Barker Road or Centerpoint Road. East Sessom Drive: On the 200 block, one westbound lane near Peques Street will be closed from 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Sept. 27-29 for core samples. Call the city’s public services department, (512) 393-8036.
Ebony Street and Parker Drive: Intersection will be closed until Sept. 30. Motorists will be detoured to SH 123, Hays Street, Parker Drive, Broadway Street, Oakdale Drive, Patricia Drive and Ebony Street. Construction also includes the 100-400 blocks of Parker Drive. A drainage improvement project on the 400 block of Parker Drive is in progress with completion scheduled for Jan. 1. The project includes construction of a concrete channel and pipe system between the commercial and residential properties to improve drainage. Harris Hill Road: Paving between North Point subdivision and Yarrington Road continues, with completion expected in early October. Motorists are asked to watch for heavy equipment and alternating lane closures. Call the Hays County road department at (512) 393-7385.
Peques Street: On the 700 block, northbound lane near the intersection of East Sessom Drive will be closed from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., September 27-29 for core samples. Call the city’s public services department at (512) 393-8036.
Purgatory Park access off of Franklin Drive: Closed through October. Park access should be available following the completion of the Craddock Avenue extension. Persons interested in accessing the park will need to approach from RR 12 or Hunter Road down Wonder World Drive and turn at the Craddock intersection. Riverside Drive: Closed between Riviera Street and Cheatham Street until Oct. 20 for utility work and a water line bore under the railroad tracks. Motorists will be detoured to Cheatham Street and Hopkins Street to avoid the area. Haynes Street may be accessible periodically from Riverside. San Antonio Street: Traffic is closed on the 100 block from North LBJ Drive to the alley every Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for the Farmer’s Market on the Square. Call the city’s Main Street program at (512) 393-8430.
South LBJ Drive: On the 200-300 block, the northbound right hand lane will be closed due to utility work. Estimated completion date is late October. Motorists should be aware of construction workers and heavy equipment in the area. Call the city’s capital improvements department at (512) 393-8130.
West San Antonio Street: Harvey Street to Hunter Road, will undergo street maintenance for milling and overlay until Sept. 30, weather permitting. Motorists are asked to drive slowly, as flaggers will direct traffic. Parking is prohibited during the day, with vehicles subject to towing at owner’s expense.
