Texas State’s football team jumped into one set of national rankings and nearly made it into another this week after a 21-12 win against California Polytechnic Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats reached No. 23 in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) coaches poll. The Bobcats came in with the 26th most votes in The Sports Network media poll, which ranks the top 25 teams.
Stephen F. Austin (SFA) and McNeese State are the only Southland Conference teams ranked in both polls. SFA is No. 6 by the media and No. 7 by the coaches, while McNeese State is No. 17 by the coaches and No. 19 by the media.
Central Arkansas of the Southland Conference sneaked into the media rankings ahead of Texas State at No. 25. Central Arkansas received 338 polling points, compared with 328 for Texas State.
The coaches poll ranks Appalachian State at No. 1 followed, in order, by Villanova, James Madison, Jacksonville State and Richmond. The media poll has Villanova ranked No. 1, followed, in order, by Appalachian State, James Madison, Jacksonville State and Richmond.
Texas State is one of three new teams in the coaches poll this week. The others are No. 24 Georgia Southern and No. 25 Illinois State.Email | Print
