Texas State’s Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli will host the “Texas and México: Bailes, Platicas and Talleres” dance Saturday.
On Sept. 18 Texas State’s Ballet Folklorico Ocotochtli will host the “Texas and México: Bailes, Platicas and Talleres” dance symposium at the Evans Liberal Arts Building on the campus. The events are free and open to the public.
A celebration of the history of dance from the Texas-Mexico border, the symposium will feature performances by noted dance ensembles. Grupo Folklorico Mexicapan of San Antonio and Merge of Texas State will perform at 11:30 a.m. At 5 p.m., performances will include Grupo Folklorico Mexicapan, Grupo Folklorico Ochtochtli of Texas State, Ballet Folklorico de Guadalajara of Mexico and the San Marcos Elementary Folklorico Group.
Lectures for the event feature “Dancing Across Borders” with Norma Cantu of the University of Texas-San Antonio and Olga Najera-Ramirez of the University of California-Santa Cruz at 2 p.m., and “Native American Contributions” featuring Mario Garza of the Indigenous Cultures Institute at 3 p.m.
