Performing arts association to conduct auditions

STAFF REPORT

The San Marcos Performing Arts Association (SMPAA) will conduct an open audition Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at the San Marcos Public Library, 635 East Hopkins Street. Auditions will last as long as there are auditioners. Alternate audition times and more information may be requested by calling (512) 353-8122.

SMPAA is looking towards the audition with two purposes. First, to cast the Christmas opera, Gian Carlo Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” for a performance this December. Secondly, SMPAA seeks to attain talent for future programs and other purposes.

The production of Amahl and the Night Visitors requires a boy soprano, as well as bass, baritone and tenor soloists. SMPAA also needs chorus members, a costume designer, a set designer/builder, stage hands, seamstress/tailors and dancers. Instrumentalists needed include flutes, oboes, piano and violins.

An audition accompanist will be available for soloists, commonly known songs and vocalizations. Audition pieces need not to be operatic in nature.

Anyone wishing to become more involved in community theater is also welcome to come by the library, meet with a board member and complete contact information for future productions. Marketing help is needed but SMPAA is also interested in producing works by area playwrights/composers. They are equally interested in offering opportunities for area performers.

Visit smpaa.com for information and updates on SMPAA activities.
